Context/baseline of the project
CAG (https://centralasien.org), together with ISDS (http://isds.kg) will strengthen the capacity and ability of local communities of Cholpon rural municipality in Kochkor district of Naryn province in the Kyrgyz Republic to claim their rights and take control of their lives through sustainable governing, protecting, and preserving the wetland ecosystems of Son Kul Lake, which is one of the International Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs). The project will give a chance for local communities, especially for women and youth, to exercise their rights to a healthy environment and equally participate in decision-making processes that affect their livelihoods, communities and environment.
In 2 years ISDS has supported more than 55 initiatives involving youth from 76 villages in four regions of the republic, which are currently engaged in the dissemination and promotion of the concept and approaches of the biocultural diversity in Kyrgyzstan.
